Applications Open for Ambassador Selection Programme

The government has opened applications for the appointment of ambassadors and permanent representatives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has opened the application. The ministry has informed that applications have been invited in accordance with Section 45 of the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act, 2064, and the amended Ambassador Appointment Directive, 2075–2079. The post of ambassador is considered equivalent to the gazetted special class, and the tenure is said to be four years. Currently, 17 diplomatic missions of Nepal are without heads. After the government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah was formed, ambassadors from six countries, including India, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Denmark, and South Africa, were recalled. Before that, the interim government led by Sushila Karki had recalled 11 ambassadors from China, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan on 30th Ashoj last year. Applications have been opened for all these countries.
