Two Indian climbers die while returning from Mount Everest ascent
Two Indian climbers have died while descending after ascending the highest peak, Mount Everest. The deceased are Indian citizens Arun Kumar Tiwari and Sandeep Arre. Tiwari died near the famous Hillary Step on May 7, and Arre died at Camp-2 while descending.
Rishiram Bhandari, Secretary-General of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, reported the deaths of the two Indian climbers. With the deaths of these two Indian climbers, the total number of climbers and guides who have lost their lives on mountains including Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu during the 2026 spring climbing season has reached seven. Earlier, in the Everest region, two Nepali guides and one high-altitude worker had died, and on Makalu, an American climber and a Czech climber had died.
