WHO Pledges Continued Assistance to Nepal’s Healthcare System

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepal’s healthcare sector during high-level talks held on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. Minister for Health and Food Safety Nisha Mehta met WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to discuss strengthening cooperation between Nepal and the global health body.
According to Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Food Safety, the WHO chief expressed the organization’s readiness to continue providing necessary support and assistance to Nepal in improving its healthcare services and public health systems. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in key health areas and expanding future partnerships.
Assistant Spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari described the discussion as productive and meaningful, highlighting the importance of continued coordination between Nepal and the WHO in addressing emerging healthcare challenges and strengthening national health infrastructure.
During her visit to Geneva, Minister Mehta also held separate bilateral meetings with China’s National Health Commission Minister Lei Haichao and India’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. The discussions focused on regional cooperation, healthcare development, and the exchange of medical expertise among neighboring countries.
Minister Mehta is leading a three-member Nepali delegation attending the 79th World Health Assembly, which is being held in Geneva from May 18 to 23. The annual assembly brings together global health leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss international health priorities and strengthen cooperation on public health issues worldwide.
