Youth Lead Celebration of 13th Nepali National Dress and Topi Day

The 13th Nepali Rastriya Poshak Diwas tatha Topi Diwas (National Dress and Topi Day) is being observed today across the country, with youth organisations leading a series of cultural events and awareness programmes. Celebrated under the slogan “Nepali Topi: Our Identity,” the day aims to promote traditional Nepali attire as a symbol of national pride and cultural heritage.

Established in 2070 BS through a youth-led initiative, the campaign encourages the younger generation to wear traditional dresses such as daura suruwal, topi, and gunyo choli. Over the years, January 1 has become synonymous with the revival of national dress, especially after its official observance had faded in the past.

Marking the occasion, many people have shared photographs of themselves in traditional attire on social media, highlighting a growing sense of cultural connection. Special programmes, rallies, and cultural gatherings have been organised at various locations in the capital to celebrate the day, reflecting renewed enthusiasm among the youth to preserve and promote Nepal’s traditional identity.
