Tourism in Nepal Surges, Offers Hope for Economic Recovery
Nepal’s tourism sector is witnessing a remarkable rebound, with international arrivals increasing by nearly 40% compared to last year. The Department of Tourism reports that visitors from India, China, and Western Europe make up the majority of tourists.
Popular trekking routes such as Annapurna, Everest Base Camp, and Langtang have seen a sharp increase in bookings. The government attributes the surge to improved infrastructure, targeted marketing campaigns, and the introduction of e-visas.
Industry experts say this growth could help stabilize Nepal’s economy, which suffered severe losses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tourism contributes nearly 8% to Nepal’s GDP and provides thousands of jobs.
Local entrepreneurs are optimistic, but they also stress the need for sustainable tourism policies to protect the fragile Himalayan environment.
