Kathmandu Eyes Boost in Trade and Tourism via New Railway Links

Nepal has announced an ambitious plan to expand its cross-border railway connectivity with India, aiming to link Kathmandu with Raxaul in Bihar by 2030. The government signed a preliminary MoU with Indian Railways, paving the way for feasibility studies and infrastructure design.

Officials in Kathmandu say the project will cut travel time drastically and increase bilateral trade, while Indian experts note it could also draw more Indian tourists into Nepal. For South Asia, this rail link holds wider significance, offering greater regional connectivity, especially for goods movement into Bhutan and Bangladesh.
