Chitwan’s Upardang Gadhi growing as tourist destination

Tilija highlights the lack of basic infrastructure in Dhaulagiri route sections, including bridges, railings, and avalanche hazard signs, and hopes government investment could boost trekker numbers. Sirai Chuli Homestay, operated by Ganesh Bahadur Thapa, generates income from homestays, with daily visitors ranging from 60-70 and accommodating up to 150 guests. Another homestay operator, Mangal Bahadur Thapa Magar, stated that the money he receives from the homestay is enough to cover his children’s tuition and other family bills.

He states that he is involved in farming and homestaying because he has no other source of money. The Chepang, Gurung, and Magar ethnic groups make up the majority of the population of Upardang Gadhi. Local organic food and products are provided to the guests. According to Ichhakamana Rural Municipality Chairperson Dan Bahadur Gurung, repair work is being done on the area’s historic buildings, including the fort, the kotghar, and the well. The construction of the armory cost 13.5 million rupees.
