Avoid using too many toxicants in crops, the agriculture minister advises

Ramnath Adhikari, the minister of agriculture and livestock development, has cautioned farmers against using excessive toxicity in crops. The minister made the request this morning while observing the farmers’ collective onion farming at Kawasoti Municipality-15 Godar in Nawalparasi. Minister Adhikari asserts that he was successful in persuading the farmers that the government provides for their needs during times of deficit rather than that farming is done for financial gain. Many farmers are now happy, he said, but in some areas they are not because of diseases and the lack of chemical fertilizers.

This year, 25 groups have been involved in commercial onion cultivation in Nawalparasi as part of the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project, Project Implementation Unit Nawalpur. On 20 bighas of land in the district, onions have been grown, according to Sunil Kumar Singh, head of the project implementation unit Nawalpur.
