Soon, a homestay program will begin in Lafa Village

The Magar community is the only inhabitants of Lafa Village in Chaubise Rural Municipality-2. For a number of years, the village has been considering starting a homestay program. In order to promote the art and culture of the Magar community, a museum was also constructed with assistance from the provincial government. The program still hasn’t been implemented after more than seven years of discussions. Although elected officials are currently serving a second term in the municipality, the homestay program has not yet been implemented. According to Limbu, they intend to work with the Cottage and Small Industries Office in Dhankuta to carry out the training this time. One local also admitted that the program has not yet started commercially, despite years of efforts to start homestay services in the Magar settlement.
The homestay service is currently being prepared for an upcoming launch. Agriculture has historically been the main source of income for the Magar community here. Locals frequently have little time to pursue other opportunities because they are too busy farming during the monsoon and fertilizing fields in the winter. The municipality’s deputy chairperson concurred that, despite the homestay program’s necessity, its implementation has been delayed by the community’s hectic schedules. The homestay program is currently being prepared for launch.
