Yak herding households send their kids to residential schools

27 children from Tembathan village in Jugal Rural Municipality-3 have moved to a residential school, overcoming past challenges of escaping yak herding settlements. Resham Syangbo’s Rural Municipality has provided residential facilities at Tembathan Basic School, enabling 27 children to study and 86 students enrolled. Parents are now leaving their children at the school hostel for education. Parents now voluntarily enroll their children in the hostel, whereas in the past they were compelled to take them to the highlands due to a lack of childcare, according to Syangbo. An annual grant of Rs. 500,000 has been set enough for the residential hostel facilities for children from yak herding households, according to Chief Administrative Officer Lok Bahadur BK.

Parents are happy that their children, who were previously denied an education, can now study while residing at the hostel, according to local Lakpa Sherpa. According to Tembathan Basic School Principal Ranjana Tamang, the kids, who are now living in the hostel rather than the yak pastures, are excited to learn. Additionally, she stated that these programs are facilitating access to school for previously excluded children.
