UML Chairman Oli Released
Former Prime Minister and leader of the Nepal Communist Party (UML), KP Sharma Oli, has been released. During the investigation, Oli has been placed under the care of his wife, Radhika Shakya, who is responsible for ensuring his presence when required. Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lalakhe were arrested on Chaitra 14 on charges of suppressing the Janajati movement. While Lalakhe remained in custody, Oli was admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital due to complex health issues. Subsequently, Oli’s wife, Shakya, and Lalakhe’s wife, Yashoda Lalakhe, filed a petition for habeas corpus in the Supreme Court, claiming they were held in illegal detention. On Chaitra 23, the Supreme Court had ordered the investigation of Oli and Lalakhe to be completed by Thursday. The court also directed that if the investigation could not be completed by Thursday, they be released under conditions. Following this order, Oli was placed under family responsibility. He mentioned that former Home Minister Lalakhe would also be released today.
