Traffic management is challenged by the rise in autorickshaws

In Lahan, a significant market in the district, traffic management has become difficult due to the increasing number of autorickshaws. When traveling short distances, people prefer to use autorickshaws over other types of vehicles. However, accidents have been occurring due to the constrained roads and careless driving. According to the District Traffic Police Office, rickshaw pullers are congested on key routes, making traffic management difficult even though this light vehicle is supposed to be used in interior neighborhoods rather than on important roadways. Poshan Raj Thapaliya emphasized the necessity for the transport office and municipal levels to develop policies regarding the regulation and operation of autorickshaws.
Recently, the district has seen a significant growth in the number of autorickshaws. According to Sanjiv Uprety, the Siraha district had 300 of these trucks operating. It is three times as much as the road’s capacity. However, Mahesh Prasad Chaudhari, the mayor of Lahan municipality, stated that they have created a work method for the control and regulation of e-rickshaws, autorickshaws, and three-wheelers. He hoped that these vehicles will be properly registered and monitored once the work procedure was put into place.
