Tourism Gets a Green Lift with Eco-Friendly Transit to Sarangkot

Nepal has completed the trial phase of its first electric cable car system in Pokhara, offering a green alternative for tourists heading to Sarangkot. The ropeway, developed in partnership with a Korean firm, is expected to open officially to the public in August.

The cable car, powered entirely by renewable electricity, will reduce pollution and traffic congestion along the popular hiking route. It covers a distance of 2.5 km in just 8 minutes, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna range.

Officials say the project could become a model for similar ventures in India’s hill stations like Darjeeling and Sikkim. Tour operators in Bangladesh and Bhutan have also shown interest in integrating this route with regional Buddhist and Himalayan circuit tours.
