Tipper trucks banned in Kavrepalanchok during Tihar festival

Agency: The District Administration Office, Kavrepalanchok, has imposed a temporary ban on the operation of tipper trucks throughout the district during the Tihar festival period.
According to a decision by the District Security Committee, the restriction will remain in effect from 5:00 a.m. on October 20 (Kartik 3) to 7:00 a.m. on October 24 (Kartik 7).
Chief District Officer Umesh Dhakal said the move aims to ensure public safety, reduce road accidents, and facilitate smooth traffic flow during the festive period. He warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the ban under the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act, 2049 BS. However, essential service vehicles are exempt from the restriction.
On average, around 2,500 tippers travel daily through the Araniko, BP, and Helambu highways, as well as the Panauti–Banepa road section, connecting the district to Kathmandu and other areas. The local administration had already limited tipper operations to nighttime hours over the past two years to enhance road safety.
