The first snowfall of the winter arrives in Manang

MANANG: The residents of Manang, a hilly district, are happy that snow has fallen there. As anticipated since the month of Mangsir (November–December), this is the first snowfall of the winter season. Nesyang Rural Municipality-1’s Kishan Mukhiya Gurung reported that snow has now covered the hills. Snowfall in the winter keeps the soil moist and rich, which is beneficial for crops, he continued. He went on to say that snowfall is good for growing medicinal plants like Chiraito (Swertia chirayita), Panchaule (Dactylorhiza hatagirea), and Yarsagumba (Ophiocordyceps sinensis).
According to Yagya Ghale of Tachai in Naso Rural Municipality-8, the tourism industry in Manang has suffered as a result of the delayed snowfall, as prospective tourists have been delaying their travel plans. “Although it is not significant, we hope that the start of snowfall will increase tourist arrivals.” Thuten Lama, the ward chair for Naso Rural Municipality-5, stated that there is no sign of snowfall in Lower Manang. In these regions, snowfall is an essential source of irrigation for winter crops including barley, buckwheat, and potatoes.
