The elephant festival began in Chitwan

In Sauraha, the 18th Chitwan Elephant Festival got underway. Through events centered around elephants, the yearly festival aims to promote tourism. Prakash Man Singh, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, gave a ceremony to kick off the festival and stated his belief that such events will help boost the nation’s economy and tourism. He emphasized the part that forefathers played in protecting plants and animals, which has now greatly increased tourism.
The event features a variety of elephant-themed activities with the goal of promoting tourism. A large elephant procession throughout Sauraha, a popular tourist destination just outside of Chitwan National Park, was part of the inauguration and garnered a lot of attention. An elephant football penalty shootout was presented on the first day. Events like the Elephant Football Penalty Shootout, Elephant Picnic, and Elephant Beauty Contest are also part of the celebration. Several cultural events are planned throughout the festival, which will continue until December 30.
