Students protest against the decision to ban the student organization

After the government decided to impose a ban on student organizations, the Joint Student Movement has opposed it. They have also announced a movement against it. The Joint Student Organization, in a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, declared their program of action, demanding the immediate repeal of the ban, deeming it unconstitutional, undemocratic, and dictatorial. According to them, the government’s decision has dealt a serious blow to the fundamental rights of citizens and students, the right to organize, freedom of expression, and ideological belief. They claim that from the 1940 BS (Bikram Sambat) Ganglal Shrestha’s student rebellion, the 1957 BS Jayatu Sanskritam movement, the 1960 BS democratic movement, the 2036 BS referendum, the 2046 BS people’s movement, to the historic 2062/63 BS people’s movement, students have played a decisive role.

Similarly, it has been mentioned that from 1995 to 2006, students played an important role in spreading public awareness, strengthening the movement, and standing for change in the struggle to establish a democratic republic. The statement highlights that even after the declaration of the republic in 2008, student movements have remained continuously active. They have urged the government to learn from past experiences, warning that no repressive measure can stop the student movement.
