Snowfall in Taplejung, including Pathibhara, at high elevations

Taplejung district has experienced snowfall and moderate rain, disrupting life in the northern upper belt, particularly at the Pathibhara Temple. The district boasts natural beauty with verdant forests, rivers, lakes, and mountains, including the Yalung Glacier, Ghunsa Valley, Olangchung Gola, and Kanchenjunga massif, among other famous landmarks.
Milan Katuwal, a Phedi-based police constable, reports that snow has started falling on the trekking trail leading to Pathibhara Temple and town. After a prolonged period of light downpour, the lack of rain has caused challenges for farmers who grow winter crops.
Snow and rain, according to farmers, will bring some respite. According to Prajin Hangbang, executive director of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, the increase in cold has caused a temporary decline in pilgrims’ visits to Pathibhara. However, because of the snowfall, Pathibhara has seen an annual increase in the number of domestic religious travelers.
