Road accidents in Koshi Province result in 191 deaths in five months

Agency: Koshi Province has witnessed nearly 3,500 road accidents in the first five months of the current fiscal year, leading to the deaths of 191 people.

According to the Highway Security and Traffic Management Office of Nepal Police in Itahari, 191 individuals lost their lives, while 327 others suffered critical injuries in these accidents.

The highest number of accidents involved motorcycles, followed by tempo, jeep, and car incidents, stated Rameshwor Twati, Information Officer at the Highway Security and Traffic Management Office.

Twati also highlighted that the lack of zebra crossings and traffic signs along the East-West Highway, where the Asian Highway is currently being upgraded, has contributed to the rise in motorcycle accidents.

He further noted that reckless driving and excessive speed have been major factors in the fatal accidents.
