Post-Pandemic Recovery: Indian Travellers Boost Nepal’s Tourism Sector

Nepal’s tourism industry is witnessing a strong rebound, with over 1.2 million visitors arriving in 2025 so far — a 45% increase from last year. A major share of this growth comes from Indian tourists, who now account for nearly one-third of all foreign visitors.

Destinations like Pokhara, Lumbini, and Mustang are seeing record hotel bookings, while new infrastructure projects—such as the Gautam Buddha International Airport—have improved travel access.

The Nepal Tourism Board attributes the rise to improved India-Nepal road links and promotional campaigns encouraging cross-border travel. For India, this trend also benefits businesses in bordering states such as Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim, where tourism routes start.

Industry experts predict the momentum will continue through winter, with both nations gaining economically through mutual tourism exchange.
