Percentage of sugar production is declining this year as compared to last

Compared to last year, the ratio of sugar produced from sugarcane has decreased this year. During the current fiscal year, one quintal of sugarcane generated 8.72 kg of sugar. According to Surendra Shukla, General Manager of Everest Sugar Industry in Gaushala, 9.11 kg of sugar were made from the same quantity of sugarcane last year. This year, the sector has crushed roughly 400,000 less quintals of sugarcane than it had planned to. 270,588 quintals of sugar have been produced from the industry’s crushing of 3.1 million sugarcane. 264,591 quintals of sugar were produced from the crushing of 2.9 million quintals of sugarcane by the industry last year.

According to Shukla, an investigation is underway to determine the cause of this year’s decline in the proportion of sugar produced from sugarcane. In the meantime, growers claim that the winter’s lack of rain may have reduced sugar production. According to Mahendra Mahato, a farmer from Pashupatinagar in Bardibas municipality-9, the production ratio might have dropped as a result of the previous monsoon’s lack of favorable rains. Crushing 3.5 million quintals of sugarcane and turning 315,000 quintals of sugar into sugar was the goal set by the Everest Sugar industry this year. However, General Manager Shukla stated that the goal is unlikely to be reached because of the sugarcane shortage.
