Peoples facing issues with cable car service

The recent expansion of cable car services to multiple locations is praiseworthy, according to engineers and experts involved in cable car operations in Nepal. However, it seems that operators sometimes disregard their obligations and accountability because of technical problems that arise in the service. The safety of the passengers and preserving the dependability of the service should always come first. A mechanical problem with the Chandragiri cable car, which is situated outside the city, caused considerable difficulty to passengers on December 30. Technical problems have been recorded four times in 2024. Passengers compelled to spend hours inside a gondola lift service can face severe mental stress, making the experience uncomfortable for everyone, even if the corporation claimed the issues were neither serious nor complicated.

Nepal currently lacks a system to control the kind, source, and quality of the equipment and materials needed to build and run cable cars. Karmacharya stated that weekly inspections and preventative maintenance are carried out every four months to ensure the safety of the Manakamana Cable Car. Power shortages can cause disruptions to the Manakamana Cable Car, forcing operations to rely on generators and resulting in brief service halts. According to engineer Milan Acharya, the establishment of a distinct regulatory and supervisory organization under a particular ministry to manage cable car services in Nepal has become imperative.
