New Kotghar is being built at the ancient Amargadhi Fort

At the historic Amargadhi Fort, a new Kotghar is being constructed after the old one collapsed due to structural weakness. Poor construction caused the ancient Kotghar to degrade quickly. In addition to stone paving both inside and outside the fort, Rs. 15 million has been set aside for the repair during the current fiscal year 2024–2025. The old Kotghar, which had a slate roof and a stone foundation, deteriorated quickly. Due to a delayed fund release process, the contract for building a new Kotghar in Nepal was signed in mid-June. Since work will not be finished this fiscal year, the schedule has been extended to 2025–2026. In 2020, the Nepali Army’s Civil-Military Relations Program used a Rs. 2 million budget to construct the first Kotghar.

For Rs. 2.5 million, the Arjunban Battalion of the Nepali Army rebuilt the Amargadhi Fort’s main entrance and built a wooden walkway through a tunnel. However, because of deteriorating timber supports, portions of the tunnel are collapsing. Other projects are in progress, such as a rest space and courtyard stone paving. Along the outside of the fort, Amargadhi Municipality has built a retaining wall and reinforced concrete access road with 25 concrete pillars, costing Rs. 500,000. The 100-meter-long by 2.5-meter-high wall is now covered in murals that show historical locations such as the capital of the Doteli Kingdom and the Ugratara Bhagwati Temple.
