New Inland Port in Biratnagar Boosts Connectivity

Nepal has inaugurated a new inland container depot in Biratnagar, aiming to strengthen trade links with India and other South Asian countries. Officials said the facility will ease congestion at border checkpoints and help exporters access global markets more efficiently.

The project has drawn interest from Indian businesses in Bihar and West Bengal, who expect faster delivery of goods. Economists in Kathmandu noted that the new hub could reduce Nepal’s reliance on third-country trade routes via Kolkata port. For regional trade, the move signals stronger connectivity and cooperation under the BIMSTEC framework.
