NEPSE Edges Up 2.41 Points, Turnover Falls to Rs 5.13 Billion

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) inched up by 2.41 points on Monday, the second trading day of the week, despite a decline in overall trading turnover.
The benchmark index rose by 0.09 percent to close at 2,616.97. Meanwhile, the Sensitive Index, which tracks the performance of select blue-chip stocks, increased by 1.65 points, or 0.36 percent, to settle at 451.05.
A total of 12,621,188 shares of 329 companies were traded through 56,347 transactions during the day. The total turnover stood at Rs 5.138 billion, marking a drop from Sunday’s Rs 6.699 billion.
Out of the 13 traded groups, six recorded gains while seven declined. The Commercial Bank group rose by 0.28 percent, Development Bank by 0.90 percent, and Finance by 0.56 percent. The investment group gained 0.37 percent, while life insurance edged up 0.07 percent and the ‘Others’ category rose 0.08 percent.
On the losing side, hotels and tourism slipped by 0.35 percent, and hydropower declined by 0.23 percent. Manufacturing and processing fell 0.06 percent, microfinance dropped 0.07 percent, mutual funds decreased 0.41 percent, non-life insurance lost 0.22 percent, and the trading group dipped 0.03 percent.
In terms of individual stock performance, share prices of 113 companies advanced, while 140 declined and nine remained unchanged.
Salpa Bikas Bank emerged as the top gainer, with its share price rising by 9.99 percent to close at Rs 439 per share. The stock had also hit a positive circuit the previous day.
On the other hand, investors in NIBL Samriddhi Fund-2 faced the biggest loss, with the fund’s value falling by 4.81 percent.
Ankhu Khola Hydropower Company recorded the highest turnover of the day, with transactions worth Rs 260.2 million. The company had also led in turnover on Sunday, when trades worth Rs 634.2 million were recorded. Its share price closed at Rs 343 per share on Monday.
Despite modest gains in the index, the reduced turnover indicates cautious investor sentiment in the market.
