Nepal to Launch National Digital ID by 2026

Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the National Digital ID system will be rolled out nationwide by 2026. The biometric-based identity card will be linked to essential services such as banking, healthcare, education, and voting.
The move aims to reduce paperwork and corruption while improving access to services in rural areas. Trials are already underway in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
This initiative aligns with India’s Aadhaar and Bangladesh’s smart ID efforts, and is expected to foster regional digital integration.
