Nepal to Expand Hydropower Exports to India

The government of Nepal has signed new agreements to expand hydropower exports to India, aiming to strengthen its role as a regional clean energy hub.

Nepal currently generates surplus electricity during monsoon months, much of it from rivers flowing down the Himalayas. By exporting more power to India, officials say they can boost revenues and reduce trade deficits.

The deal also opens the door for future cooperation with Bangladesh and Bhutan under a regional grid framework. Energy experts in New Delhi say the move supports India’s clean energy transition while strengthening South Asian economic ties.

For Nepalese media, the story highlights economic opportunity; for Indian outlets, it emphasizes energy security and regional integration.
