Nepal seeks Australian partnership in green energy and hydropower development, says Minister khadka

Agency: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, expressed Nepal’s readiness to welcome Australian technology and investment in the country’s transition to green energy.

He made these remarks during a courtesy call by Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Leann Johnston, at his office on Monday.

Highlighting the vast potential for bilateral cooperation, Minister Khadka noted that Nepal and Australia could work closely in areas such as hydropower development, renewable energy, modernization of the transmission system, climate-resilient irrigation, clean energy infrastructure, and advanced technology.

Marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Minister conveyed his gratitude for Australia’s continued support to Nepal. He particularly acknowledged the value of Australian government scholarships and capacity-building programs in strengthening Nepal’s human resources.

Ambassador Johnston, in turn, extended a formal invitation to Minister Khadka to attend the International Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Conference, scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from September 8 to 10.

She congratulated Minister Khadka on launching a comprehensive roadmap for the development of Nepal’s energy sector during his tenure and wished him success in its implementation. The Ambassador also expressed confidence that advancing hydropower while maintaining environmental balance would bring significant benefits to Nepal.

Johnston reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s ambitious projects, including hydropower development, through sustained partnership and cooperation.
