NDRRMA Urges Public Caution as Severe Weather Forecast Across Nepal
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has issued a nationwide alert, urging people to remain cautious as heavy rainfall, snowfall, and strong winds are expected across several regions of Nepal in the coming days.
According to forecasts by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, hilly and mountainous areas of Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province are likely to experience heavy rain and snowfall. Meanwhile, strong winds reaching speeds of up to 119 km/h are expected to affect parts of Lumbini Province, including Dang and Nepalgunj, from Friday.
The authority also warned that similar weather conditions may extend to eastern regions such as Biratnagar, Dhankuta, and Dharan on Saturday.
Officials highlighted that ongoing pre-monsoon activity has increased risks, including falling trees, damage to weak structures, and disruptions to electricity and communication networks. Recent windstorms have already caused casualties and injuries, raising concerns over public safety.
In its updated advisory, NDRRMA said moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds is likely across many parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim, as well as hilly regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Koshi provinces. Some areas in Bagmati, Madhesh, and the Tarai region may also witness unstable weather conditions.
The authority has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, remain indoors during storms, and secure doors and windows. People have been advised to stay away from weak structures, tall trees, and electric poles and to avoid contact with fallen power lines.
Additionally, the public has been cautioned against using electrical appliances during storms and encouraged to follow regular weather updates and safety advisories.
With volatile weather expected to persist, authorities have stressed preparedness and vigilance to minimize risks and ensure public safety.
