Musikot cultivates 140 tons of garlic, valued at Rs. 16m

Rukum West’s Ward No. 10 produced the most garlic, bringing in an estimated Rs. 16 million. With traders already contacting them for purchases, the ward’s garlic farmers get ready to sell their produce depending on demand from the national market and prices from the previous year. Local farmers are harvesting, cleaning, and drying garlic. Garlic farmer Khim Bahadur Oli asserted that the harvesting effort is overwhelming the locals due to time restrictions. The planting season for maize begins in mid-May, and there is a rush to clear the fields. Oli claims that he harvested about 25 quintals of garlic after planting three quintals of garlic seeds. If he can sell everything, he expects to turn a nice profit and plans to expand cultivation the next year.
By offering subsidized seeds, market access, and fruit tree cultivation, the ward places a high priority on agricultural initiatives that allow traders from different cities to buy agricultural products straight from farms. Chairman Khadka has led the ward in increasing production through market certainty, technological competence, and cooperation with government offices, potentially making it a certified ‘Garlic Production Pocket Area’. Farmers have indicated that a local cold storage facility could help with production and marketing difficulties, and the ward expects economic development through continued agricultural production and marketing success.
