Meeting between foreign minister & European Commission’s Commissioner held to discuss key of work frame

The International Partnerships Commissioner and the Foreign Affairs Minister met on Thursday. Economic relations, development cooperation, and in particular Nepal’s appeal for the EU’s assistance to ensure a seamless, durable, and irrevocable transition of Nepal out of the LDC category were the main topics of discussion at the conference. Following Nepal’s graduation in 2026, Foreign Minister Dr. Rana pushed the EU to extend the transition period on trade-related concessions.

During the conference, the parties also reviewed the procedures for Nepal’s entry into the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus following the LDC graduation. Additionally, the Foreign Minister asked that Nepali Airlines’ ban from the EU’s grey list be lifted. Since the formation of Nepal’s diplomatic relations with the European Commission in 1974, the country and the EU have enjoyed tight, amicable, and friendly relations. The EU is one of Nepal’s key development partners. The two countries’ diplomatic relations are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
