Kathmandu Explores Sovereign Green Bonds to Fund Mountain Conservation
Nepal is contemplating the issuance of sovereign green bonds to finance conservation projects targeting glacial melt and river basin protection. Officials say the bonds will support climate resilience in vulnerable terrains and create new investment pathways for sustainable development.
Modeled after successful instruments in Indonesia and Western countries, Nepal’s green bonds aim to attract both domestic and international investors.
This initiative aligns with discussions in India’s Himalayan states and Bangladesh on mobilizing green capital for environmental resilience, offering a collaborative blueprint for regional investment in nature-based solutions.
