Jhapa’s paddy production declines

Every year, Jhapa’s arable land, is regarded as a grain store, shrinks, lowers the amount of rice produced there. Four years ago, paddy was grown on 87,500 hectares of land. After three years, the paddy plantation has shrunk to 72,000 hectares, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Center in Jhapa. Just four years ago, Jhapa produced 423, 000 metric tons of paddy; this year, that amount has dropped to 382,000 metric tons, according to Sagar Bista, the head of the Agriculture Knowledge Center in Jhapa.

According to him, the growing trend of turning fertile land into settlement while non-agricultural areas are being heavily utilized for production activity may be the reason for the decline in production. In order to boost the production of agricultural products, including paddy, organic fertilizers are being made and supplied to farmers based on their needs, according to Hukum Singh Rai, the chairperson of the Kamal Rural Municipality of the Jhapa district. He stated that by implementing land use policy effectively, we intend to stop the decline in production.
