In Bara, more farmers are growing chaite paddy

The Bara district planted 18,000 hectares of chaite paddy last year and 2,000 hectares this year after rice production increased. Farmers in Bara are cultivating more chaite paddy because it yields more than bhadaiya and aghani paddy, according to Ganesh Mahara, an information officer at the Agriculture Knowledge Centre. In the current fiscal year 2024–2025, the Bara district produced more than 271,000 tonnes of paddy, valued at around Rs. 10.85 billion.
In various regions of the district, 62,020 hectares of paddy chaite, bhadaiya, and aghani were grown this year. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, the District Coordination Committee set the price of paddy at Rs. 40 per kilogramme this year, and Bara has produced paddy valued at Rs. 10.84 billion based on that pricing. After being grown on 34,120 hectares of land, 139,892 tonnes of aghani paddy were produced in different sections of the district. In a similar vein, Mahara reported that 11,900 hectares of bhadaiya paddy had produced 51,170 tonnes, while 16,000 hectares had produced 80,000 tonnes of chaite paddy.
