Himalayan Villages Get Power Boost Through New Micro-Grid Scheme

Nepal has launched a pilot program deploying community-run solar mini-grids in several remote mountain villages. Funded by a blend of government and international climate grants, the grids are designed to power homes, schools, and clinics off the grid, under local management.

Initial reports show positive uptake, with reduced dependency on kerosene and improved access to evening study and healthcare services. This solar community model is catching the attention of planners in Bhutan, India’s Himalayan states, and Bangladesh’s mountainous regions as a scalable, participatory energy solution.
