Gurung people celebrating New Year in name of ‘Tamu Lhosar’

The Gurung people are celebrating ‘Tamu Lhosar’ as their New Year on Monday by hosting a number of events throughout the nation, including in Kathmandu. For a week, the Gurung community will commemorate Tamu Lhosar. Every year on Poush 15, the Gurungs celebrate Tamu Lhosar as their New Year. ‘Lho’ means class and ‘Sar’ means change in the Gurung language. The Gurung group will welcome the Snake cycle on Monday and send the Garuda cycle goodnight as part of their celebration of Lhosar this year. To commemorate their yearly celebration, the Gurungs in Kathmandu will host a number of events, including a special program at Tundikhel.
The cultural rally organized by the Tamu Lhosar Main Organising Committee will travel through New Road, Ratnapark, and Bhadrakali before coming to a stop at Tundikhel. In the Gandaki Province’s principal Gurung communities of Lamjung, Gorkha, Tanahun, Syangja, Manang, Kaski, and Parbat, several events will be held. With great ceremony, they greet one another and indulge in traditional foods as they celebrate the holiday. According to the committee, there will be a formal ceremony, a tea gathering, a book release and literary honor, a sports program, a folk dance competition, a blood donation, a cultural program, and a greetings exchange for a week.
