Green Skies Ahead: Nepal to Convert Regional Airports to Solar Energy

Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority has announced a plan to run all regional airports on solar power by 2030, beginning with Pokhara and Bhairahawa. The project is backed by international climate funds and technical assistance from Germany.
This move aims to reduce the aviation sector’s carbon footprint while cutting energy costs. Airport authorities will install rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems to ensure uninterrupted power.
Such initiatives are also being encouraged in India’s northeastern airports, and Bhutan has expressed interest in collaborating on joint solar aviation tech for regional travel.
