Govt gives the agriculture sector Rs. 57.5b

Govt has allocated Rs. 57.48 billion for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development for the 2025/26 fiscal year, aiming to boost agricultural production and productivity. The government has allocated Rs. 57.29 billion for agriculture and livestock development in 2024/25, focusing on production, productivity, export promotion, and insurance for small and medium-scale farmers. The government has allocated Rs. 28.82 billion for chemical fertilisers in the next fiscal year, with plans to supply 600,000 tonnes at a subsidized rate. The government has set aside Rs. 400 million for the promotion of organic agriculture in an effort to boost output while preserving the quality of the land. According to the budget, production would be encouraged on fertile, bare terrain near the Madan Bhandari and Pushpalal Mid-Hill highways.
The budget said that the quality of plants, food and animal quarantine, and laboratories will be enhanced and made internationally recognized in order to boost the export of high-value agricultural products, such as organic fruits, vegetables, meat, and other items. According to him, establishing quality standards, setting up laboratory testing, and branding will all help to enhance exports of cardamom, tea, coffee, ginger, turmeric, orange, black pepper, chutney, and dairy goods. The budget contains measures to increase small and medium farmers’ access to livestock and agricultural insurance programs. For crop and livestock insurance premium subsidies, the government has set aside Rs. 2.3 billion.
