Foreign Minister Sharma visits Prime Minister Rahman of Bangladesh
Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma of Nepal met with the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, on Tuesday evening. During this meeting, Sharma conveyed warm congratulations and delivered a congratulatory message from Nepal’s Prime Minister, Sushila Karki. In her message, Karki expressed her willingness to collaborate with Prime Minister Rahman in fostering mutual respect and partnership to enhance the relations between Nepal and Bangladesh for the benefit of both nations and their people. Sharma also commended Rahman for leading the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to a significant victory in the national elections held on February 12 and praised the Bangladeshi government for ensuring a successful electoral process and a smooth transition to democracy.
Prime Minister Rahman expressed his gratitude towards Foreign Minister Sharma for attending the oath-taking ceremony, highlighting that the visit symbolizes the goodwill and solidarity between the governments and people of Nepal and Bangladesh. The leaders reiterated their commitment to enhance the enduring partnership and engaged in constructive discussions on advancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, connectivity, education, and tourism.
Additionally, Rahman extended his best wishes for the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Nepal. Foreign Minister Sharma’s visit to Bangladesh, occurring from February 16 to 19, also included a meeting with the leader of the opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, where they discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation.
