Connectivity Initiative Aims to Bridge Digital Divide
The Government of Nepal has unveiled a plan to equip 2,000 remote villages across its mountainous regions with public Wi-Fi connectivity, partnering with UNICEF and local tech firms. The initiative includes solar-powered connectivity hubs in schools and community centers. By enabling Internet access in previously offline areas, officials hope to bridge educational and economic divides. Remote students can access online learning, health advice, and market updates.
Regional interest is high; initiatives in Indian border districts, Sikkim, and Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts are exploring similar rollouts to accelerate rural development. This digital push also harmonizes with India’s ambition for a South Asian Knowledge Corridor.
