Community schools resume their academic programs
Taplejung district community schools reopened after 28-day protests, resumed student enrollment and teaching-learning activities, following an agreement between the government and the Nepal Teachers’ Federation. Schools resumed academic sessions and enrolment campaigns after closure, with students attending classes once parents were informed about the reopening. School reopens after teachers’ protest suspension, resuming enrollment, textbook distribution, and classes. Schools plan to operate without usual holidays in July to compensate for academic loss. The resumption of classes has brought relief to students and parents, as the prolonged closure caused disappointment and disrupted the academic calendar.
There are 343 community schools in Taplejung. Of them, 207 teach first through fifth grade, 67 teach sixth through eighth grade, and 69 teach ninth through tenth grade. Additionally, according to Ramnarayan Chaudhary, a Technical Assistant and Information Officer at the Education Development and Coordination Unit, 32 schools offer classes for students in Grades 11 and 12. According to Chaudhary, 30,297 pupils—14,946 girls and 15,451 boys—were enrolled in the district’s community schools during the 2024 school year.
