Calm Restored in Kapilvastu as Authorities Lift Prohibitory Orders
Normalcy has begun to return in Kapilvastu after authorities lifted prohibitory orders imposed in the wake of a recent communal clash. The restrictions, which had affected multiple areas, were officially withdrawn from 9 am on Tuesday following an improvement in the security situation.
The curbs were initially enforced after a dispute between two communities in Bargada village, located in ward 2 of Maharajganj Municipality, escalated into tension last Saturday. In response, the district administration swiftly imposed restrictions later that day to prevent further unrest.
The prohibitory orders were subsequently extended to other sensitive areas, including parts of Kapilvastu Municipality, Mayadevi Rural Municipality, and Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality. These measures included a ban on public gatherings, rallies, protests, and assemblies to maintain law and order.
According to officials, the situation remained tense in the southern parts of the district following the March 21 incident. However, coordinated efforts by local authorities and security agencies helped bring the situation under control, with visible signs of improvement from Monday evening.
Assistant Chief District Officer Bhawishwar Ghimire confirmed that the decision to lift restrictions was taken after assessing the ground situation. He stated that easing the curbs would help restore daily life and facilitate normal movement for residents.
The withdrawal of restrictions has been welcomed by locals, as markets reopened and routine activities resumed across affected areas. Authorities, however, continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that peace is maintained.
The incident highlights the fragile nature of communal harmony in sensitive regions and underscores the importance of timely administrative intervention. While calm has returned for now, officials remain cautious, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation among communities to prevent any recurrence of unrest.
As Kapilvastu moves forward, the focus remains on rebuilding trust and ensuring that stability is sustained in the days ahead.
