Administration has made the growth of fruit areas a top priority

To boost apple and walnut production, the Karnali Provincial administration intends to expand the agricultural area. The provincial administration has made the growth of fruit areas a top priority this year. According to the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives, seven districts are implementing the initiative this year. Five districts in the former Karnali will be the sites of the apple and walnut area extension initiative. The District Agricultural Development Office will carry out the initiative. He stated that each district has been given a budget of around Rs. 1 million. According to the province authorities, Dailekh and Rukum West will also be included to the region used for walnut production.

Instead of growing grain crops, fruit cultivation has drawn farmers in recent years. The scheme will directly benefit farmers and help the nation cut back on imports of apples and walnuts. According to the government, the province’s fruit-growing area has grown in comparison to earlier times. Profitability, market accessibility, and a number of government fruit-growing subsidy programs are what draw farmers to this industry. Karnali is implementing the ‘NAFA Project’ in collaboration with the provincial and federal governments. Additionally, the NAFA Project will encourage farmers to grow fruits. According to Kathayat, the initiative is being carried out in collaboration.
