Bidya Devi Bhandari Takes Oath as CPN-UML Senior Leader

Former Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday took oath as Senior Leader of the CPN (UML), with party Chairman KP Sharma Oli administering the oath at the party headquarters in Chyasal.

The oath was taken ahead of the first meeting of the party’s Standing Committee formed after the 11th General Convention. Bhandari had recently been nominated Senior Leader by the party’s Central Committee.

The development marks Bhandari’s return to a CPN (UML) meeting after nearly 11 years. She had resigned from the party after being elected President and served two terms, with her second tenure ending on March 12, 2023.

After completing her presidential tenure, Bhandari renewed her CPN (UML) membership before being nominated Senior Leader. Under party rules, the Senior Leader can participate in meetings of all party committees.
