Kathmandu Aims for Rural Internet Inclusion by 2027
Nepal has officially started its first national digital literacy campaign, aiming to bridge the urban-rural tech gap. The program includes mobile training vans, digital classrooms, and government-backed tutorials in local languages.
The initiative is being praised by tech educators in India and Bhutan, where similar efforts are underway. With mobile phone penetration at over 80% but digital literacy under 40%, Nepal’s challenge mirrors that of several South Asian nations.
The campaign focuses on practical skills—like online banking, digital ID usage, and internet safety—and is backed by both government funding and private partnerships.
