Digital Transformation Underway in Rural Nepal with Global Support

Nepal has launched a Smart Village project in Kavrepalanchok district, combining digital literacy, clean energy, and e-health services to modernize rural life. The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication, UNESCAP, and India’s Digital India Foundation.

The pilot covers 15 villages, equipped with solar-powered digital kiosks, online education modules, and telemedicine access. Local youth are being trained to maintain the infrastructure and act as digital facilitators.

This model has the potential to be replicated in other South Asian regions, including hilly districts of North Bengal, where connectivity and access to services are still limited.
