There is teacher shortage in Gulmi district

Gulmi faces difficulties in finding teachers for mathematics, English, and science, despite four ads for a federal grant at Jnanoday Madhyamik School, with no applications received. Musikot successfully recruited a mathematics teacher for Janajyoti Secondary School, but faced challenges in finding English teachers for Shiva Shankar Secondary School, Dadalka Secondary School, Nepal National Secondary School, and Sitapur Secondary School. A Nepali individual identifies issues in Nepal’s teaching profession, including limited opportunities, foreign migration, and lack of respect, highlighting a policy issue in the state’s education system. According to the Gulmi Education Development and Coordination Unit, the lack of enthusiasm for teaching and the growing allure of international jobs are factors in the teacher shortage.

According to the Gulmi Education Development and Coordination Unit, one of the causes of this is a shortage of teachers. Thaneswar Ghimire, the unit’s leader, claims that the teacher shortage is a result of some teachers quitting their employment and taking time off. He acknowledged that the district lacks enough science, math, and English instructors. He said that this issue is not just present in Gulmi but is also seen across the nation. There are 590 schools and 56,203 pupils in Gulmi, including community and institutional schools, according to the educational development and coordination agency. According to the agency, there are 3,153 permanent posts available in the district’s schools, which range from early childhood education to class 12.
