Bamboo Revolution: Nepal Eyes Sustainable Industry with New Initiative

Nepal’s Ministry of Forests and Environment has launched a National Bamboo Mission aimed at promoting bamboo cultivation and industry. The initiative is projected to create over 100,000 green jobs and contribute significantly to rural economies.
The government is collaborating with local farmers, SMEs, and international NGOs to provide training, seedlings, and market access. With high export potential to India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, bamboo is being seen as a low-cost, eco-friendly alternative to plastic and timber.
This development resonates with South Asian environmental goals, and similar programs are now being considered in India’s northeastern states and across parts of Bangladesh.
