Clean Energy Surge: Nepal Exports Surplus Power to India

Nepal has reached a milestone by producing over 3,200 MW of electricity through hydropower—its highest in history. The country is now exporting surplus electricity to India via newly upgraded cross-border transmission lines.
This energy surplus is seen as a major economic turning point for Nepal, which has long depended on imports. The Ministry of Energy has announced future plans to supply power to Bangladesh and possibly Bhutan.
For India and other neighbors, Nepal’s energy progress opens opportunities for sustainable regional energy cooperation. Experts view this as a model for South Asia’s green energy transition amid growing electricity demands.
