The hydroelectric project at Lower Solukhola is nearly finished

With ninety-five percent of the actual work completed, the Lower Solukhola Hydropower project is nearly complete. Located in Tingla, Solukhumbu, the Lower Solu Hydropower Company is developing an 82 megawatt project. Important milestones have been reached, including the completion of the tunnel and powerhouse construction as well as the installation of generators and turbines.
According to company manager Dharmendra Gotame, commercial power generation is scheduled to start in July, and the penstock tunnel is anticipated to break soon. Additionally, the transmission line is 80% finished. The project, which was started in September 2016, has received a loan of Rs 16 billion from the European Bank (International Funding Agency), which includes FMO. By September 2025, the project should be finished. This project is built on a reservoir, which is situated in Solukhumbu’s Salme neighborhood.
Water is sent to the powerhouse at Bhadaure, Tingla, which is around 6 km distant, via a tunnel. The project’s expected cost has gone up because of the lengthy tunnel and topographical difficulties. 700 people, including locals, are employed by the project. When the hydropower project is finished, it will provide the national transmission line with 82MW of power during the rainy season and 23MW during the winter.
